Thank you for visiting my art website. My name is Seamus (Рафаэль). On this hobby site, you will find some of my tiny brush paintings and calligraphy, either as reference, or for sale. I have painted since I was very young, and was an early graduate of the Nanyang Academy of Fine Art (NAFA) in 1979, a fine art college in Singapore. I am also a potter, specializing in sculpting clay figurines, although these days I focus on Chinese painting. This website features some of the mini paintings. The paintings are typically A5 in size (5. 8 x 8. 3 inches, or 148 x 210 mm). I may paint larger paintings in the future, if I go full-time. For now, A5 paper is portable for me as I move about. I also dabble with Chinese calligraphy, of the Traditional Chinese script especially. These are created on my smartphone on the road. I tend to write one character at a time, and then write a short blog or commentary on why I wrote this character. However, if you want commissioned art and calligraphy, than I can be flexible to take on projects of any sized medium. I make my paintings approachable in pricing, so that everyone can enjoy having a painting for your desk (at work or at home), on a coffee table, or even on the wall. Call me Seamus. I have always been an artist. I have a liberal and free-form artistic expression (寫意派), and my medium is Chinese ink or brush painting (水墨畫). I have also dabbled with pottery, using a potter's wheel and also free-form sculpting. I graduated from the Nanyang Academy of Fine Art (NAFA) at its old campus at Saint Thomas Walk in 1979 - I was the youngest student in the class then (source). I was caught up with work and business for such a long time, I stopped painting altogether for more than 36 years. However, I managed to get back painting again, using simple disposable pre-inked Japanese calligraphy brush pens and sketchbooks, instead of the traditional Chinese brushes, ground ink and cotton paper. I have 35 years of business and professional experience in marketing, branding, public relations, Internet, science research, training and development, and journalism (broadcast and print). I am the head of content and CTO at an award-winning commmunications and strategy agency. Rekindling roots after 37 years Seamus is formally trained in the Nanyang Academy of Fine Art (NAFA) in Singapore in the late 1970s, but stopped painting since he graduated from NAFA until he picked up painting again on July 10, 2014, with a pre-inked Japanese brush pen and an A5-sized sketchbook. After laboriously painting frequently, starting from weekly, to daily, Seamus received much encouragement from online communities of friends, to finally launch an online gallery featuring his art pieces. Art without boundaries Out of mobility and convenience, Seamus paints with disposable pre-inked Japanese brush pens and A5-sized sketchbooks, adapting his classically trained Chinese painting style of "xieyi" (寫意, which is a bold and liberal form of Chinese painting), with contemporary painting techniques such as pointillism, for the smaller paper medium and the constraints of Japanese calligraphy brush pens.
