The "Aviator" is for the part of me that loves to build, to lead, and to strategize, a skill set I honed in the working world, where a good flight plan is everything. This project isn’t a separate career; it’s the place where these two sides of myself finally get to have a conversation. ## Beginnings My musical journey started with a childhood love affair with the violin. It was a wonderful, if sometimes screechy, adventure that taught me the fundamentals of music theory and the kind of patience that only a child learning to play a stringed instrument can truly understand. Life, as it does, took me down a different path for a while, leading me through the world of technology and corporate leadership. But the music never truly left me. ## Rekindling In my thirties, I decided it was time to reconnect with that part of myself. I didn't reach for another violin, though. Instead, I picked up the electronic wind instrument—an EWI. It’s essentially a digital saxophone, and it felt like the perfect bridge between my past and my present. It allowed me to honor my love for instrumental music while embracing the very technology I'd spent my professional life building and advising on. I’ve even been dabbling in the beautiful, ancient tones of the Guqin (古琴), a traditional Chinese instrument, proving that my musical curiosity knows no bounds—and that I still have a lot to learn! ## Painting meets music This blend of old and new is at the heart of what I do. It's an a showcase for my "xie yi pai (寫意派)" style, which is all about capturing the spirit rather than the precise form. In my music, you'll hear a similar approach. I try to compose from the heart, creating a fusion of my classical past and my technologically-savvy present. My professional life has always revolved around understanding and leveraging technology, especially in fields like AI and automation. My professional background certainly influences my artistic process. I’m a firm believer that technology can be a powerful partner in creativity, offering new ways to write lyrics and compose music. They are suitable to be framed with larger frames and can be very intriguing and thought-provoking visual pieces. My own paintings are broadly categorized into two types: "Podvig" and "Prosto." The "Podvig" series often features Christian-themed motifs, frequently depicting a Hieromonk (an Orthodox Christian monk who is also an ordained priest) in various scenes. These pieces are imbued with an underlying message, often derived from Gospel teachings or the profound thoughts of Orthodox saints. They are designed to inspire contemplation and spiritual reflection. In contrast, "Prosto," a Slavic word meaning "straightforward" or "simply," encompasses everyday objects and scenes from nature. These paintings capture the simple beauty of the world around us, without necessarily carrying a deep scriptural implication. They are my way of highlighting the quiet elegance in the mundane, from a blossoming flower to a serene landscape. When it comes to pricing, I strive to make my art approachable. Thank you for visiting my humble art and music website. My name is Seamus (Рафаэль). On this hobby site, you will find some of my tiny brush paintings and calligraphy as reference or for sale, as well as references to original music and songs I wrote. I have some music background, but my talent is probably best described as a poet and lyricist. I have painted since I was very young, and was an early graduate of the Nanyang Academy of Fine Art (NAFA) in 1979, a fine art college in Singapore. I am also a potter, specializing in sculpting clay figurines, although these days I focus on Chinese painting. This website features some of the mini paintings. The paintings are **typically A5 in size (5.8 x 8.3 inches, or 148 x 210 mm)**. I may paint larger paintings in the future, if I go full-time. For now, A5 paper is portable for me as I move about. I also dabble with Chinese calligraphy, of the Traditional Chinese script especially. These are created on my smartphone on the road. I tend to write one character at a time, and then write a short blog or commentary on why I wrote this character. However, if you want commissioned art and calligraphy, than I can be flexible to take on projects of any sized medium. I make my paintings approachable in pricing, so that everyone can enjoy having a painting for your desk (at work or at home), on a coffee table, or even on the wall. The paintings are generally delivered **UNFRAMED**, since everyone may have personal preferences to the frame design or material. Do note the prices are in SGD (Singapore dollars). Call me Seamus. I have always been an artist. I have a liberal and free-form artistic expression (寫意派), and my medium is Chinese ink or brush painting (水墨畫). I have also dabbled with pottery, using a potter's wheel and also free-form sculpting. I graduated from the Nanyang Academy of Fine Art (NAFA) at its old campus at Saint Thomas Walk in 1979 - I was the youngest student in the class then ([source](http://www.nafa.edu.sg/about-nafa/corporate-information/history#yearSix)). I was caught up with work and business for such a long time, I stopped painting altogether for more than 36 years. However, I managed to get back painting again, using simple disposable pre-inked Japanese calligraphy brush pens and sketchbooks, instead of the traditional Chinese brushes, ground ink and cotton paper. I have 35 years of business and professional experience in marketing, branding, public relations, Internet, science research, training and development, and journalism (broadcast and print). I am the head of content and CTO at an award-winning [commmunications and strategy agency](https://mcgallen.com/?aaviator). I am a published book author, with many books on business, leadership, Internet, religion, and literary expressions. I workout consistently in the gym, and am a proponent of weight training as the primary or only means to looking young and staying fit, together with good nutrition.
